I’ve had many mentors along the way. I grew up going to an all-girls school, so female influences were everywhere in my life. Women as leaders were the norm.
I once met Jane Goodall at a conference and had 60-second conversation with her about my idea to approach chefs in San Francisco, and ask them to stop serving bluefin tuna at their restaurant.
She looked at me and said, "That's the only way to do it." She gave me confidence and validation to keep going, and I haven't stopped since.
